A friend who works at a hydraulic shop did it for me for the cost of the braid. If you give me the length and fittings I can see if he can do it. I think the braid is $45/m.

well if its that price dont worry about it, ebay has braided kits to suit the GT3582R for 90 bucks posted, so as soon as there is 2 meters of line from your mate it ends up the same cost as the ebay kit. and im sure ill need more then 2 meters

it took me quite a few hours but i finally got the intercooler mounted. the brackets i used are old shelf brackets and were bloody strong.. took the grinder about 3 times as long as it normally would to get through it and i went through a new drill bit every hole drilled. apart from the car body, the single bit went through that quick as anything lol. i dont think the cooler is going anywhere lol.

the cooler ended up being a mounted lower then i wanted purely because i can now use a factory bonnet release mechanism instead of running the cable through to the wheel arch.

also mounting it higher would mean cutting pretty much ALL the bumper mount out which i wanted to avoid.

i cut away some of the bumper insert to help mount the cooler lower, also allows a little air flow to the cooler.

then i was toying with the idea of more air flow which will mean the moving of the numberplate...
Image
thoughts?

i also thought about 2 rectangle "sub box ports" to mount in the bumper beside the numberplate with a 45 degree bend to direct air infront of the cooler.. OR 2 big 3-4" chrome round ports and mount them where the numberplate is... i dont know...

the other way i thought about mounting it was upside down which looked cool, but again the mounts would have to be completely removed or remade to suit. which wasnt going to happen

yeah the numberplate will be kept in the center... i have decided to cut out behind it but make it smaller then the numberplate so that i can just space the numberplate out at the bottom which will allow a bit of airflow in behind it and through the cooler. and since others have less area with direct airflow then that with no issues with cooling i dont see an issue

well after alot of stuffing around and head bashing and not to mention raw fuel in my eye and across my face it finally runs :D

what went wrong? NFI.. how i fixed it? like this
Image

bypassed the brown and green relays and also ran the fuel pump straight off the battery, if you just jump 1 relay nothing happens, but the second you jump all 3 parts it runs and starts perfectly.. im thinking its the BCM, so ill pick one up some time this week.

i have ordered the last of my silicon joiners and should be here pretty soon, i have my F6 Typhoon injectors coming and a bosch 937 fuel pump, or something like that which is good for 550HP which should be good for now, if i need more later on it can be the lift pump :D

i still need to sort out the ECU side of things. i was told a EMS is the way to go

here is a short vid of the motor running.. exhaust manifold, no cat.. sounds awesome

Bash: there is no rust on this car apart from where the covers are to step inside as it wore through the paintwork.. but its getting sorted, but thats the main reason i kept the car, not many falcons of this age without rust..

Mark: yeah im happy, still a long way to go yet. i found out the F6 injectors i got are only 29lb like the stock XR6T's so my 280kw want is out the window. but 230-250 is still achievable providing i can get the 3" exhaust done

not much to update.. but i thought i better post something.

been with my partner for 12 months on the 29th so to be nice she bought me a welder. its just an ARC welder but its done the job i needed it for.

i spent half my day off work (spent the first half throwing up as you do after eating out the night before.. stupid dodgy restaurant) cutting and tacking my intercooler piping together. altho at first my welding sucked ass its getting better. but in saying that i havnt touched a welder in 7 years and i have never used an ARC welder, only a mig.

i have half of the cold side tacked up, then i received a package from geoff at snort, (no smiley face on the box this time) which had my turbo to dump pipe gasket (which was mistakenly left out of the kit) it also included the exhaust studs, and a fitting welded onto a welsh plug for the water feed... geoff is a champ, and if anyone is after a turbo kit you cant go past the service i have received from him. thumbsup

you will also notice in the pic that i have some green fittings for the water lines. surprisingly enough they are air fittings, when i was about to head off to buy the fittings i seen a fitting from the air tool kit so i thought bugger it ill see if it fits.. PERFECT!!!! and when i walked into bunnings i need anodized fittings for $2.50 each!!! compared to the speedflow fitting on the welsh plug which was $11!!!! even tho you wont see them much its still a nice touch.

then i had a day with my daughter and it rained so no work on the car, but today after work i received 3 parcels, some more silicon joiners and my F6 injectors :D

only pieces left to purchase now is a fuel pump (have one lined up) and the ECU.

im a little undecided on the ECU, i have been speaking to TI Performance about the J3 chip, but im looking at $215 with tuner, where as $445 from the states will get me a EMS piggyback unit.. so im trying to work out which will be the better choice, if i go the J3 now i know ill need to upgrade in the future but it will get me on the road quicker. the EMS will cut out the middle man but will take longer to get on the road.

Image
a little modding to fit the piping :P
Image
Image

all i need to do now is stretch the sump hole for the return feed, plug in the replacement BCM, and the turbo is ready to bolt on!!!

minor update, not much to as really, sold the F6 injectors again as they wont be big enough and i have tracked down a set of 32lb injectors instead, picked up some stainless welding rods and done 2 joins. i also welded up some splits in the mild steel piping. i still need to pick up some grinding discs to make it a bit neater. im thinking of painting all the piping silver.. maybe metalic silver as it will look **** half polished half mild steel...

im almost out of 3" piping so tonight im heading down to revengelanes place to pick up some 2.5" piping to finish the job.

please excuse my dodgy welds as i havnt touched a welder in 7 years and i have only ever used a mig.. but once its grinded it should look ok.

LED strips for the indicators should arrive tomorrow fingers crossed.

got 90% of the piping welded up. still waiting on the LED strips so i can modify the clear indicators. just need 2 more lengths of 2.5" piping aprox 500-600mm long to complete the piping. i still need to grind and reweld a few bits due to pin hole leaks (tested in a tank of water)

i have a bumper lined up thats not twisted. it should be here thursday so ill have to modify that one to suit too. might cut up this one to show cooler and keep the other one for sleeper spec.

while i was at revengelanes place last night i picked up a malpassi fuel reg 1:1 ratio, he showed me a fuel gauge but kept it as its new, so i stopped off at autobarn and picked up one identical. it has a broken bracket but thats nothing. ill make something up to hold it in place. im thinking about mounting it where the washer bottle tank would normally be.

i also removed the reducer and 2.5" bend through the indicator hole as pictured in the last update and welded a piece of pipe on so i could use the 90 degree reducer which neatens things up alot.

i know its alot of piping but im planning on putting a bigger stallie into it (3000 or more) so the slight lag shouldnt be too bad. and keeping most of it 2.5" will also help reduce lag time.

my ECU also has the ability of anti-lag which can be run with the push of a button, so if im about to race i can push the button to activate antilag then once the foot is down i can release the button for instant boost. so ill be looking into this option.

well i have been capped so i couldnt make an update with pics but im currently on offpeak time so ill do a small update.

half of the intercooler pipes are air tight, the fuel pressure reg is mounted.

hoping to have it started and running by next weekend. still a few things to do before then

i have added the sump fitting, just need the welsh plug changed to the one with the water hose fitting then the turbo can be bolted on for good.

made the bracket for the fuel reg using a mounting bracket from the fairlane bumper.. not bad for a first attempt :P

blue is not the final colour on the piping. its just there to stop the welds rusting for now until all the pipes are done and then ill crack out the spray gun and paint them all black..

i also ordered some plates for it, i know it gives it away a bit but its not too obvious.

small update. water feed is now in. cooler pipes were painted black, apart from that i picked up a few bits like a-pillar covers, EF selector (as i was using a NC/EF hybrid unit) now its a matter of connecting all the hoses up such as turbo oil feed and return, then buy some better quality water hose as it will be near some extreme heat and i dont want to have issues. someone suggested fuel line?

now i just need a heap of clamps (aprox $60 worth) and im going to organize the EF loom plug for the ECU adapter this week so i can finally get it done.

a question for those who know turbos.. should i connect the return line then pour some fresh oil into the turbo unit to protect it a bit before i start the car?

thats about it for now. wont be much progress as i have a heap of work and rego on the daily coming up this month. but it shouldnt be too long now

forgot to mention i also got my LED strips for the indicators, so over the next few days ill have a go at fitting the LED strips to the indicator housing...

Re: Huggies NC II Fairlane Ghia - getting boost finally.

Postby huggiebear on 24 Aug 2010, 22:24

ok this will be my last update for a while as im moving into a new house this weekend so i wont get time to work on the car for a few weeks as it will still be at this location until i can hire a car tailor to move the 2 cars. so ill do an update on the car as it sits.

had an issue with the water fitting on the welsh plug, today i was fitting the speedflow fitting to it, had only JUST started to get tight and the fitting snaps off the welsh plug.. im thinking they used the wrong solder or something as i didnt put much pressure on it at all. i did my usual cursing and yelling and decided i cant be stuffed getting another fitting or trying to brase the fitting back on so i bought a new welsh plug and ill fit that and just run the water from the thermostat housing and be done with it.

my LED's for the dash/interior and front indicators have all arrived and are fully working so progress will be moving on slowly with this over the next few weeks.

im also in talks with a mate and it looks like im picking up the gearbox which has had over 3k of work done to it :D that should help the driveline a bit.

i have a mate picking up an AU motor (complete) that blows a little smoke on start up that i scored for $50, so this will be stripped down, some head work done, new rods and pistons and hoping i can push a heap of boost into it. well as much as my kit can handle :p

he is also picking up a new drivers door and the 2 front 1/4 panels with no dents for me that i got for $5ea off ebay which will be resprayed when the bonnet boot lid and bumper gets done.

i have a exhaust place lines up who will do a dump-back exhaust in mandrel 3" (minus cat) for 600 or 1200 in stainless. for the extra power the stainless will give i dont think its worth double the price. the other option is twin 2.5" and possibly trying to do a dual exiting exhausts, one on each side but i havnt had a good look under the rear to see if its possible yet. (note fuel tank shape differs from falcon range due to extra length so i think its skinnier)

some more bad news today, my drycell battery i bought for $200 off a mate only a few months back dropped a cell... not too happy about that, but nothing i can do about that, they said they will do a optima deep cycle battery for $399 which should suit the boot install alot better but ill see how things go. might do some research first.

after the fitting snapped today i decided to throw the turbo kit on anyways with just a few nuts holding it in place as it will have to come back out again to fit the new welsh plug. but im glad i did as its keeping me motivated to keep going. but now im kind of liking the idea of keeping the vents as you can see the intake and turbo through them. i might respray both bonnets so i can swap as i like.

i have also painted up a AU throttle body in black as they dont have the rocker cover breather pipe its one less thing to block up.

so this is all for now. as soon as i get the net hooked up at the new place ill do another update. thanks for looking
